I am the Director of Operations for a Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon so you may think “Well you HAVE to support cosmetic surgery because it’s your job.” You would be wrong! I support changes to the face and body(within a “normal” scope- what'ss “normal” you ask? Trust me, that’s a whole different blog for another day) because I have seen how these transformations IMPROVE the course of a person's life - including my own. This thought process started when I was in middle school. I had a few friends that were tormented because of not fitting into what society deemed “beautiful”. It is unfortunate but true. There is actually an exact science to beauty. “The Golden Ratio” is an exact numerical makeup of proportions of the face and its symmetry that make a face aesthetically pleasing or not. Ancient Greeks regard the “The Golden Ratio” as the equation to “Perfect Beauty”.
Ok- enough with the Anatomy lesson- back to my middle school years.
Let’s take my Greek friend Maria as my main example. Maria was slender, petite with dark hair and a huge (and I mean HUGE) nose - not being mean - just a harsh fact. I watched as kids called her “Beak Face”, “Toucan Sam”, “Anteater”… you get the idea. My heart broke and I got in more fights that year defending her than I care to remember. This continued on into high school and got minimally better. She had no date to Prom, Homecoming, etc. (I didn’t either but this is about Maria right now- lol) A few years after high school, I went home to visit and stopped into the restaurant Maria’s family owned. As luck would have it, Maria was there. I did not recognize her but heard a familiar voice yelling my name and coming towards me for a hug. This slender, petite, dark-haired beauty made her way towards me. I was completely taken back. To say her rhinoplasty was a success would be an understatement. It completely changed her facial structure. Her outside beauty now matched her beauty inside. Now before you go off on a tangent about accepting what God gave you blah, blah, blah - let me stop you - you are on the wrong site if that is your belief and I wish you well - but you should probably leave this blog! Lol Back to Maria. Her parents gave her a rhinoplasty procedure as her high school graduation gift. In my opinion, it changed the course of her life - or maybe that was the course of her life - hell I don’t know - too philosophical for me- anyway… She moved to New York after high school, became a wildly successful Petite Model, met the man of her dreams and had a life most can only imagine. Her facial plastic surgery gave her the confidence she needed to take the reigns to the life she deserved.
I have seen this many times throughout my life about the confidence that plastic surgery has given people. Breast augmentation for the girl that didn’t quite “fill out”-myself included - would I have been a Playboy model without the boobs? Who Knows?
Liposuction to those stubborn areas that just won’t budge no matter how much diet and exercise you do (remember Legally Blonde and the accused’s real alibi? Delta NuNuNu!), cosmetic eyelid surgery that gives 10 years back to aging men and women, and so many other areas people are insecure about that can be transformed in the right hands.
Cosmetic Surgery is a personal decision for everyone. However, I know with the right Dr., realistic expectations and a caring and supportive team behind you, it is the right decision for those ready for a change. That’s what we do here at Masterpiece- transform you. It’s up to you to take the reigns after that and transform your life!
